Why this combo works
Golden armor defeats most trims because it is already bright and highly saturated — quartz, gold and copper all sink into it. Netherite is the one material dark enough to hold its shape against that base, and Rib is heavy enough to carry the contrast rather than read as thin scratches. The ribcage lands across the chestplate where the gold is flattest, which is exactly where the set needs a shape.
It suits Nether bases, bastion raids, and any build where gold is the theme but plain golden armor looks too soft. Because golden armor is cheap, this is also the most affordable high-contrast set in the game — the only rare part is the Rib template itself, at 6.7% per Nether Fortress chest.
How to build Gilded Rib
The full Gilded Rib set needs one trimmed helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots. In survival, each smithing operation consumes one Rib template and one netherite trim material.
- 4 armor piecesGolden helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots.
- 4 Rib templatesFind one at Nether Fortress chests, then duplicate it for the full set.
- 4 Netherite materialsUse minecraft:netherite_ingot once per armor piece.
- If starting from 1 templateDuplicate 3 times: 21 diamonds + 3 Netherrack.
- Find the Rib smithing template from Nether Fortress chests.
- Duplicate the template until you have 4 copies for the complete armor set.
- At a smithing table, combine each golden armor piece with the Rib template and
minecraft:netherite_ingot. - Repeat for helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots to complete the full Gilded Rib set.
Rib template duplication recipe
Duplicate Rib smithing template
Crafting table recipe: 7 diamonds + 1 Rib template + 1 Netherrack gives 2 Rib templates. Starting from one found template, repeat this 3 times to prepare a full 4-piece armor set.
Smithing table recipe for each piece
Golden armor + Rib template + Netherite
Use the same recipe pattern for every armor slot. Each row below consumes one armor piece, one template, and one netherite material.
Java /give command
Use these commands in Java 1.21+ to spawn the full Gilded Rib set directly.
/give @s minecraft:golden_helmet[trim={pattern:"rib",material:"netherite"}] 1
/give @s minecraft:golden_chestplate[trim={pattern:"rib",material:"netherite"}] 1
/give @s minecraft:golden_leggings[trim={pattern:"rib",material:"netherite"}] 1
/give @s minecraft:golden_boots[trim={pattern:"rib",material:"netherite"}] 1
Bedrock notes
Bedrock Edition still expects you to apply trims at a smithing table. Give yourself the golden armor pieces, then combine each piece with the Rib template and netherite material.
Style notes and variants
Best for: Nether champion, gilded warlord, bastion raider.
- Ward + Netherite on Golden for a broader dark pattern that reads better at distance
- Rib + Netherite on Diamond for the same contrast on a cold base
- Snout + Resin on Golden for full piglin regalia instead of contrast
