Ward
The Ward smithing template uses a sweeping shield-like motif that pulls in toward the chestplate centre. Its name fits — Ward, as in protection — and it is the Deep Dark biome's more accessible flagship trim.
Drops from Ancient City chests at 5% per chest. Ward has four entries in the same 80-weight pool where Silence has one, so it is four times as likely: 14 chests is the median and 45 covers nine players in ten.
Best on Netherite + Gold ("Royal Guard"), Diamond + Copper for a warrior's shield look, or Iron + Lapis if you want a heraldic blue-on-grey.
Armor trims are cosmetic only — no change to stats, durability or enchantments.

Ward shares the Ancient City chest pool with Silence. Ward has weight four in the 80-weight pool, so its rate is 5% per chest — four times Silence's 1.25%.
Fourteen chests is the median and 45 covers nine players in ten. Every Ancient City run rolls for both templates at once, so Ward usually appears while you are still farming Silence.
Route tip Same Deep Dark rules as Silence: lay wool to kill vibrations, never sprint, leave shriekers alone, carry milk for Darkness. The city centre has the densest chest cluster but also the most shriekers — clear the outer wings first while you learn the layout.
